Nopopups started in 2001 when it was rare to visit an adult site without having popup windows take over your screen. The idea was to build a directory of the sites that didn't employ this unfriendly tactic.

Today there are many tools to prevent this and most web designers know that they are killing their brand by pushing extra pages onto their viewers which sorta makes nopopups redundant. However directories can still be useful as a way to find good sites so nopopups will continue to link to quality porn sites.
